Superdog
July 1, 2009Over the weekend my mom received a very interesting e-mail that I thought I would share with everyone.

In the e-mail there was a cross-bred dog, and I am not sure what mixture he was, but he looked like possible a rotweiler, german shephard, and something else. Anyway, he was a trained army dog serving in Iraq. Apparently, the dog’s troup was captured and taken to an Iraqi camp. The dog was so perfectly trained that the owner gave a simple hand gesture that meant “run and return.” The dog took off, escaping the Iraqis, and was gone for close to a week.
The American soldiers hands and feet were tied, and they were gagged and thrown in a closet in one of the camp’s huts. However, like ordered, the dog returned, and with a vengence! I guess they train dogs in stealth mode for Iraq, because this dog returned at night, when most of the camp guards were not as alert. He sniffed out his troup and found the hut that was holding his soldiers captive.
Now this is the part that gets me… apparently, part of the hand signal given to the dog before to “run and return” must’ve included a “kill” command to (or else the dog is just the smartest dog alive). I say this because as the dog approached the hut, he was faced with a guard, who thought nothing of the dog at first… the dog ripped his throat out and killed him silently! The Iraqi didn’t even have time to scream! And THEN the dog did it to a second guard, who heard his fellow man’s body hit the ground. This all happened in a matter of minutes, and to add to the dog’s heroism, he got to his troup, chewed through the ties on their hands and the American soldiers escaped the camp.
Now, who knows how much of this is true, but honestly, I don’t know why someone would make up a story like this, especially soldiers serving in Iraq. The dog and his troup returned to America recently and he earned a medal of honor.
I just thought this story was so cool and wanted to share it with you all. I’m sure most people wish their dogs could do more than the common sit/roll-over/speak tricks. We had my dog trained by the man who trained the 9/11 dogs. Unfortunately my family and I are a little lazy, so my dog, at best, sits/lays down/shakes/comes/stays… but only when SHE wants to. But if you think about it, dogs are pretty amazing animals. Nowadays, dogs are used for the disabled, the sick, and the army. They sniff out bombs or can sense when their owner is about to have a seizure. But I think, if we take a look at historical records of dogs, we will find that dogs have always served us not only as man’s best friend, but by performing important services. For example, my dog is an Irish Terrier and during WWI Irish Terriers were trained to run messages long distances back and forth to American troops. I think this is just amazing!
Unfortunately, my mom deleted the e-mail already with the link to this new article, so I cannot provide it for you. However, if anyone out there reading this knows the article I am referencing, PLEASE leave it in a comment for people to enjoy!
