Pizza Hut About to Get Swallowed?
April 24, 2009Sinkhole: also known as a sink, shake hole, swallow hole, swallet, doline or cenote, is a natural depression or hole in the surface topography caused by the removal of soil or bedrock, often both, by water. (definition courtesy of Wikipedia)

In Beaver County, Pennsylvania a very serious sinkhole is threatening to gobble up Pizza Hut! (I know, that was a really terrible pun, i’ll try to make sure that never happens again…) The sinkhole, which started off at a small, unthreatening level, has continued to expand over the past few months, and is now on the verge of swallowing Pizza Hut whole!
The owners complained to local government when the sinkhole was originally discovered but authorities did nothing about it. Bad decision on the authorities. The sinkhole currently measures 140 feet wide by 80 feet deep, and I can only assume, from its recent history, that it will continue to expand at an increasing rate. Not only is the sinkhole threatening Pizza Hut, but it is also threatening a section of an entire boulevard.
I can’t help but think about the Simpson’s Movie when talking about sinkholes (think Maggie and the sandbox). It would be amazing if you could transport, in a way, via sinkholes. I’d make sinkholes at all my favorite places – Starbucks, the beach, my bed room, California, Disney World, Greece, and so on. This is what scientists need to start working on!
Back to reality – hopefully this sinkhole can be taken down before Pizza Hut gets eaten!
