Highly Underrated

August 5, 2008

It’s going to be a long time until someone matches the paychecks of the hit show Friends, IF anyone is able to. Yet, that doesn’t mean there still aren’t good TV actors out there. One of these actors I would like to recognize is Charlie Sheen. This year he was named the highest paid U.S. television actor at $825,000 per episode! I think many people underestimate Sheen’s acting ability. I’m not saying he is the greatest actor today… I don’t even think he could make it in any other role other than the one he plays on Two and a half Men. But, Sheen is at his prime right now. They always say male actors’ success increases as they get older, and I think this holds true for Sheen.

In addition to being a highly underrated TV actor, I also think Sheen’s show, Two and a half Men, which he has ownership rights in, is also highly underrated. It is a fairly new show and appeals mainly to the middle aged male audience, which is probably why it is not as widely recognized by TV audiences. However, I laugh hysterically when I watch this show! Sheen plays a rich bachelor who writes commercial jingles and owns a house on the coast of Malibu. He doesn’t really like children, he is sexually inappropriate, and thinks of women as people put on earth to arouse and please him. Despite his overly macho manliness, he has a heart… somewhere deep inside him. You can see why families choose shows like American Idol or 8 Simple Rules over this delectable treat.

So anyway, I just wanted to bring attention to Mr. Sheen’s recognition for raking in the big dough for being recognized for his talents and humor by those paying his salary.

NOTE: Among other highly paid TV faces are William Petersen of CSI, $600,000/episode; the cast of The Simpsons, $400,000/episode each; Simon Cowell of American Idol, $50 Million per season; Seth MacFarlane, producer of Family Guy and American Dad, $100 Million for a five year deal with FOX; and Oprah Winfrey, $385 Million per year.
