N.F.S, Jr… IMY!
July 15, 2008As you all know, my dear friend N has departed and left me here in Jersey for the Aussies. I guess I would, too, if I were him, because Australia looks pretty freaking cool. However, N, if you are reading this, I hope you are alive and safe.
N is down under visiting with the Pope Benedict XVI … along with 100,000 other people! More than 100,000 Catholics from around the world swarmed Sydney Harbor on Tuesday for World Youth Day. That
is a very large, very intimidating mass of Catholics – things could get ugly. N, I fear for your life. I am sure you are safe. Actually, now that I think about it, you are probably one of the crazies down there, running around with your seminarian friends waving U.S.A. flags and singing at the top of your lungs. Or are you one of the people protesting the streets against Benedict’s abortion and homosexuality policies?? I have no idea, seeing as I don’t know what those polices are, but I do know that no matter what you are doing, the Aussies are staring at you guys thinking “Stoo-pid Americans.”
You know I heart you!!
I just want to quote this one sentence from a news article because it has a bunch of funny words in it and puts a really interesting image in my head: “Aborigines in traditional clothing and white body paint
danced and chanted to the strains of a didgeridoo.” Didgeridoo. Ha ha ha. So, N, you are down under
jumping around with a bunch of ghost Indians and chanting a bunch of nonsense. I’m jealous I’m missing this. Not World Youth Day, the part about you dancing with “aborigines” haha. Also, N, you better have registered for the daily text message from Eggs Benedict as follows: “Young friend, God and his people expect much from u because u have within you the Fathers supreme gift: the Spirit of Jesus, signed BXVI.” That is actually pretty cool, except for the fact that the Pope probably does not even know it is being sent out. Just so you know, I also expect much from u, for no particular reason. Like, as soon as you get home, I expect you to take me out on the sail boat.
Well anyway, N, I hope your having fun, I hope you get a chance to read this, and try and stay alive down there. Worst comes to worst, grab a couple of sea turtles and have them swim you back to America. Also, save those texts from el Popo so S can laugh at them when you come home.
One more funny word from the Aussies before I go: Barangaroo. This word is so cool it gets its own link!
