A Blast from Back to the Future
July 10, 2008
Do these sneakers look familiar to you? Well, they should, that is if you grew up in the 80’s or 90’s watching Back to the Future. Michael J. Fox’s infamous character, Marty McFly, wore these futuristic sneakers in the second movie of the series. How could we forget? Everyone wanted a pair after seeing the movie, just like the hover boards. Unless you are a die-hard fan scavenging for collector’s items, you probably weren’t aware that Nike has been working on a secret project called the McFly 2015 Project. Nike is aiming to release one of it’s most creative shoes to the masses by 2015. Yes, these stylish sneaks could be yours someday soon!! And who better to advertise such a product?? S, you’ll love this – no other than your modern day NBA MVP, Kobe Byant.
On July 2nd, Kobe Bryant arrived in Santa Monica, CA to sponsor the release of the new Nike Hyperdunk McFlys. The superstar didn’t drive up in his typical Ferrari or Range Rover – rather, he rolled up in a Delorean, complete with gull-wing doors – how appropriate! Maybe he borrowed it from Doc. Undefeated, a sneaker store on the West Coast, was giving out Kobe Bryant autographed pairs to the audience in a first come first serve style. Unfortunately, only 350 pairs were available. Of course, if you want a pair that badly, E-bay has already been rumored to have these Air McFlys, costing around $1000 each! (Sorry S, that’s a little out of my budget for your birthday
) Here’s Kobe getting out of the Delorean:
I guess if you want to pay a more mild price for these babies, you’ll have to wait 7 more years or so! I will say the shoes are very “hip”, to use a word from the 80’s. They are like adult light up sneakers! Who doesn’t want shoes that light up and conform to your feet? What is really neat is the shoes come with a special lacing system, similar to, but not exactly like, the one in the movie shown in the above clip. It’s cool to think that someday we can tie our shoes with the press of a button… I would say you better start getting in line for your pair now – better start saving, too, because I can bet these guys won’t come cheap! You can sign up online now for pair at www.mcfly2015.com.
